Application of Shrimp Waste for the Synthesis of Polyurethane–Chitosan Materials with Potential Use in Sorption of Oil Micro-Spills in Water Treatment

Shrimp waste is a common in seafood processing. It used as part of the fish meal which added to feed. Bearing mind Green Deal and sustainability development, it was proposed use northern prawn shells obtain chitosan (Ch), could then be for polyurethane (PUR) modification. In ports, oil micro-spills often flow into waters gulfs and, consequently, sea. Systematic chemical petroleum water pollution may pose threat flora fauna. this study, chitosan, obtained from shrimp shells, synthesize polyurethane–chitosan foams (PUR+Ch) with different concentrations. Selected physico-chemical sorption properties relation these materials were determined. found that amount Ch foam affected its morphology, hardness, density, thermal properties. PUR 1.5% weight characterized having highest sorption.
